a match

Today is my mom & Dan’s 3-year wedding anniversary.

They met on match.com many years ago, which is a fact so fantastic I still almost can’t believe it. They are an example of what Match can do- bring two people together that would never otherwise meet in many lives. Dan hangs with a DC/Euro crowd and likes his sailboat. My mother frequents neither spot but she certainly can be found at a writer’s workshop, showing houses, organizing some event dinner at her house or at Loehmann’s- possibly buying something for me.

I like thinking back three years ago to the ridiculous spot where they chose to marry. My family headed to the Greek island of Rhodes, were Dan spent part of his youth, and spent a week hopping from there to the nearby Turkish coast to Istanbul. As if the vacation weren’t dreamy enough, their actual wedding site was like something out of a movie- a small white church perched at the edge of a hill on the jewel-blue water in the middle of nowhere. We sort of showed up, did a 5 minute thing outside, took some breathtaking pictures and then headed to the even more unbelievable dinner spot- also perched on the side of a hill overlooking the water. Come to think of it, it was all a bit Mama Mia movie, without the 100 dancing 20 year-olds.
